The live guest of N1 Studio was Mosta MP Zvonimir Troskot, who commented on the already rising prices, especially of food.
“I have to show solidarity with the citizens, the prices are really skyrocketing. Compared to other European countries, food prices in Croatia are rising much faster than in other countries, which is also connected with the entry into the eurozone. No one prepared that shock, the controls on how it will unfold were not set,” said Troskot.
He does not believe that Croatian retail chains will follow the example of the French retail chain Carrefour, which will freeze the prices of 100 of its products to help citizens with inflation.
“This does not suit either the retail chains or the Government, they both make money. The government has reduced the VAT, but the budget is full and making money on this large consumption, and the chains are using the situation with the entry into the eurozone, the situation with Ukraine and passing all these prices on to the users,” says Troskot and adds:
“I expect that at some point the citizens will be the ones who will determine the direction of the prices, because at some point they will really have to choose from their budgets between two items and another point, which no one touches, I talked to the security guards, the thefts in the shopping area have increased chains. They already know exactly which items are stolen the most, mainly groceries, toothpaste… This is something that is an indicator that people really don’t have it and it is something that can be expected in the future”.

“Inflation will cost us somewhere around 25 billion”
One of the main culprits for this situation, he says, is the Government, that is, inadequate measures regarding the economy.
“One of the solutions is, for example, to reduce contributions, because that means, if it were to be reduced, to go to the second step, for those powerful people who are employed in public administrations to transfer to the private sector through one program, we are talking about some 50 to 60 thousand people. There is this surplus in public administration. Only during the last madnat, about 15 thousand people were employed, without the question of why. These are all potential voters and this is all political capital, but it is expensive and what the citizens already see, it is not the money that the prime minister gives us, all of this is paid by the citizens through taxes, higher excise duties or interest or inflation that will according to our calculations, it will cost somewhere around 25 billion, and what I don’t see here is some kind of strategy. If we know how much it will cost or how it will be financed. In the end, it comes down to citizens paying for it all,” said Troskot.
