Only recently the remake of the video game ‘The Last Of Us’ inspired fans, now the whole thing should be crowned. A film adaptation of the survival adventure for the Playstation is in the works and HBO has released the first trailer.
‘The Last Of Us’: Düstere Adaption
This mainly shows gloomy images, backed by a slow country soundtrack. But the main cast can already be seen. Featuring Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. Both are known to a wider audience from ‘Game Of Thrones’. The second half of the trailer teases the plot for those who are not familiar with the game: Joel is supposed to keep Ellie alive in a dangerous world. More precisely: The girl is to be smuggled out of a quarantine zone into another survivor camp, which turns out to be more difficult than it sounds after the destruction of civilization as we know it. The unlikely duo depends on each other as they journey through post-apocalyptic America. The atmosphere of the clip is dark and brutal – and it also features a clicker at the end, one of the aggressive mutants that make the world of ‘The Last Of Us’ such a dangerous place.

The story about Joel and Ellie was so successful in the game form that developer Naughty Dog followed the remake of September 2022 with a second part. The sequel ‘The Last Of Us Part II’ was released in 2020 and takes place four years after the first part. The film adaptation has been under discussion since 2014, but several internal changes and schedule changes followed.
Game related production team
One of the people behind the series is Craig Mazin, who previously worked on the successful miniseries ‘Chernobyl’. The music is by Gustavo Santaolalla, who already composed for the game. Also involved is Neil Druckmann, who also worked on the video game template, as creative director and writer. Fans are enthusiastic in the comment columns – Druckmann’s participation in particular fuels hopes for a good film adaptation. Finally, ‘The Last Of Us’ is known for its storytelling. Recently, interpretations of video games as a series have not been so well received: Netflix’s ‘Resident Evil’ did poorly with fans and critics.
The series is slated for release in 2023. In Germany, the HBO production will be available via Sky.
