Mario Kociper, the father of a boy who was beaten by a group of boys in front of the school building in Dugi Selo this weekend, spoke about everything for N1.
“It’s good, it will be fine, there are no consequences of the attack, except for fear, a plum, a broken arcade and a strained jaw. We don’t know it one hundred percent yet, it is currently being examined at Rib, but we believe it will be ok. That’s the most important thing to me,” said the father to our reporter Vanji Kranic.
He also says that the children were sitting at the entrance in front of the school, surfing on their phones, eating chocolate bars and discussing what they were going to do, when several masked boys in sportswear with hoods approached them. According to him, they started asking them questions about whether they were baptized, why they have long hair and whether they support Dinamo, and it all ended with one of the attackers saying: “You sure don’t have a cigarette, now we’re going to break you up.”
“At that moment, my son took the phone and started to call me, but he didn’t succeed because one of them attacked him at that moment. He was punched in the head. He wears glasses, they fell out, he fell to the floor and the three of them started kicking him. The girl who was with him fell to the floor, she could not do anything. They don’t even know how many children there were. Three of them beat them, the others filmed them with mobile phones. When they judged that they had beaten them enough, they left,” he says, adding that his son managed to call him after that, so they took him to the emergency room, and the police came there and took statements.
Kociper told our Vanja Kranic that he first announced everything about this terrible event in closed Dugosel groups and that many people contacted him there with the same or similar problem, an attack by masked boys who always have the same story that ends in violence.
“I was contacted by parents who experienced the same thing, many parents want to remain anonymous. I decided that I don’t want to let my child or myself do that again. The first thing that came to mind was Luka Ritz. We knew that there was this problem in Dugi Selo, but you always hope that your child won’t. Now we have seen the amount of these terrible attacks on children and we have decided to go public with it,” he says.
“We don’t want those children to kill anyone. Even though they are children, they should be held accountable,” he says, adding that similar attacks have been reported and prosecuted before, but that nothing has changed. “Those kids are still out there doing the same thing. They are hungry for blood, violence and nothing has changed”, he says.
“A gang of minors who are under the influence of social networks, I don’t know what, if they have anything other than the desire for blood… I can’t understand it, it’s not clear to me that there are those other children who only do evil, I can’t understand it, honestly. My motive is to break it up”, says Kociper.
“If this has already happened, if the same names are constantly being repeated and if these are children who have been problematic for eight years, one has to wonder where the system failed,” he says.
He also says that the children’s ombudsman has already been informed about the case. “We will see what the police can do tonight. We will try to create an association of parents who have gone through the same thing. Now we have already received the help of institutions to educate children about what violence is, why it should not be tolerated… Children know too little about it, that’s one of the problems”, he concludes.
