“If there’s something strange in your neighborhood …”: Few film songs are as catchy as the title song of ‘Ghostbusters – Die Geisterjäger’ (1984). The melody by Ray Parker Jr. stormed the charts internationally, won a Grammy and almost 40 years later most people know the lyrics. It is similar with the ghost hunters themselves, whose story was underlined with it. The Ghostbusters are doing well in the eighties revival, which is partly due to the Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’. That has now been crowned with a video game.

Editor’s recommendation
‘Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed’ is playable since yesterday. Developer and publisher Illfonic released a new launch trailer for the action game. There are also new professional gameplay recordings.
Of course, the focus is on the Ghostbusters. Players can create their own ghostbuster, although there are references to the film and its sequels. This is how Ray Stantz and Winston Zeddemore appear in the game, voiced by their actors Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson. If you don’t want to be a Ghostbuster, you can also use the opposite side in the 4-on-1 concept: the ghost. The latter can be controlled in a third person, for the Ghostbusters ‘Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed’ is based on first-person shooters. The aim is to capture the ghost or repair the damage it has caused – or just cause as much chaos as possible as a ghost.
‘Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed’: Detailed ghost hunt
Players have the means known from the films at their disposal. The ghost hunters naturally have proton packs and PKE meters. The ghosts, on the other hand, can possess objects or spit slime – there are five different opponents in total with different abilities. In terms of the look of the environment, the game is also based on the animated offshoot ‘The Real Ghostbusters’ (1986-1991).
‘Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed’ is available for PC, Playstation and Xbox. Crossplay is possible, there are also game modes against AI.
