Opposition representatives in the Zagreb City Assembly warned on Thursday about the increased stench emanating from the Jakuševec landfill, and Mayor Tomislav Tomašević announced improvements to the composting facility, although he does not agree that it is the main cause of unpleasant odors.
“The composting plant in Jakuševac has been there for decades and is of an open type. It has not been established that it is necessarily the cause of the increased number of complaints from citizens about the unpleasant smell,” he said Tomasevic on the current hour, defending himself against the name-calling of opposition representatives Slaven Dobrović (Homeland Movement), Goluže suffers (Bridge) i Marija Župana (HDZ), who pointed to the problem of increased stench spreading in Jakuševac, which is why a group of citizens protested in front of the Assembly this morning.
Doborović accused Tomašević that, due to the new waste collection model, he consciously reduced the quality of life of the people of Zagreb, stating that the unpleasant smell increased from the composting plant, especially after the citizens started separating more waste due to the new model.
Goluža came to the parliamentary booth with a padlock, which was previously a prop of the Initiative for Jakuševec protestors. The padlock represents the pre-election promise of the We Can platform to close Jakuševec, Goluža reminded.
Tomašević did not admit that the cause of the increased stench from Jakuševac was precisely the compost, but he says that this problem is very important to him.
“If necessary, we will hire an external company to determine the cause – whether it’s a compost plant, a landfill, something else. Whatever the cause, we will solve it in the short term,” said Tomašević, adding that improvements will be introduced at the composting plant as early as this week.
Due to raised tones and intrusions, Tomašević announced written answers
“Just in case, we will start this week with algae and microorganisms, with wood pulp to stabilize the bio-waste, and with mulch from the beginning of next week,” said Tomašević.
During the current hour, raised tones and intrusions to the speaker could be heard, which is why Tomašević did not want to answer the deputies live, but promised them a written answer, and did not even answer some accusations.
The representatives also wanted to hear answers to questions about the loan of 240 million euros from the Zagreb Holding, asking questions about the increase in interest rates related to Euribor, and the independent representative Ivica Lovrić he wanted details about the interest rate, terms of the loan and the type of loan that was refinanced.
“In the loan of one billion and 800 million kuna, there are 340 million kuna, and one billion and 311 million kuna were raised by your management, from June 15 last year to September 1 this year, all of this is an integral part of the contract,” Lovrić said. .
He told Tomašević that it was unfortunate that he had not read the contract, to which the mayor accused Lovrić of “data manipulation”.
“The claim that we have indebted the Holding more than the former management is a simple lie. The total indebtedness of the Holding upon coming to power was around five billion kuna, and now it is around five billion kuna”, answered Tomašević.
