Political analyst Ivana Marić was a guest in the N1 studio live and analyzed the elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The victory of Željko Komšić as a member of the Presidency as a Croat was expected, that is not in doubt and that is why Čović nominated Borjana Krišto, without him being a candidate in the elections. The defeat of Bakir Izetbegović is surprising, and the victory of Denis Bećirović, who achieved a great advantage. This is an indication that such a policy is no longer so fruitful in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a policy of destruction, raising national tensions, spreading fear, everything that the SDA has shown,” said Marić.
She assessed the election for the president of Republika Srpska as questionable, where a fierce battle is being fought, and from the headquarters, Milorad Dodik and Jelena Tribić declared victory, although not all votes have been counted yet.
Suspicion of malfeasance regarding the results in Republika Srpska is also obvious. “This shows how desperate Dodik and SNSD are and how much they must win the elections. Earlier, they could win the elections even without such obvious frauds, now we see that it is much more noticeable and that there is great panic in their ranks. It is also devastating for Dodik that Željka Cvijanović achieved a significantly greater advantage over Mirko Šarović than he did over Jelena Trivić, and this will also shake his position in the party. It is also possible that something will be changed and it is a correct decision to question and check certain voter lists,” said Marić.
We see that Dodik has already been defeated in some way, and his policy has proven to be no longer leading and people want some new young people and a new policy embodied in Jelena Trivić, the analyst added.
Regarding suspicions of fraud and election fraud, Marić said that a detailed analysis will show where the ballots are invalid. “There is a percentage that is normal for the ballots to be invalid, and such a large percentage of invalid ballots, as recorded, means that there is probably some kind of electoral fraud. It will be interesting to see if only Jelena Trivić or someone else is crossed out on the ballots, and it will also be interesting to see where it was, i.e. if it is in a few polling stations, and not throughout the Republic of Srpska, then it is obvious that it is an election scams. If they are evenly distributed, which I strongly doubt, it is possible that other reasons are involved. I believe that the PDP will not allow it to happen like this and it will certainly be checked,” said Marić.
Regarding the decision of High Representative Christian Schmidt, who announced changes to the Election Law after the polls closed, Marić said that Schmidt understood that this was the only way he could do it, because politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina often make plays for the public. “These decisions were not a surprise for the parties themselves, because Schmidt said he had heard from them earlier. These decisions were a surprise for the citizens,” said Marić, adding that the system of both elections and voting in Bosnia and Herzegovina is already quite complicated.
