A member of the ruling coalition and the Croatian Democratic Party (HDS), Hrvoje Zekanović, accused Marijan Pavliček, the president of the Croatian Sovereigns, in the Croatian Parliament on Thursday that he offered a coalition to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in secret meetings, which Pavliček denied.
“Recently, Pavliček was driven around Zagreb in a car with tinted windows, going to secret meetings with Andrej Plenković and offering him a coalition,” said Zekanović, asserting that it is hypocritical to attack Plenković and try to sneak up on him secretly.
Zekanović, who was expelled by the Croatian Sovereignists at the beginning of the year due to his views on vaccination against Covid, and on Wednesday joined the HDS, thus becoming part of the ruling majority, said that everything is transparent with him, and he called out the Sovereignists for continuing to cooperate with the SDP- om.
Marijan Pavliček ironically congratulated the ruling majority in free speeches on behalf of the Club of Croatian Sovereignists because they got “one more handle” during the summer break (referring to Zekanović).
When asked about offering a coalition to the prime minister, Pavliček replied that Zekanović was telling a series of untruths and lies because he never offered Plenković any coalition. “I am glad that from today you will officially be part of, in your words, the Serbian-Croatian trade coalition,” he told Zekanović.
Zekanović replied that “the windows of the car he was driving towards Plenković were still not tinted enough.” “You were seen, and you were not alone at the meeting. You told a lie and you know it very well. You have been seen”, said Zekanović and earned a warning.
In free speeches, Pavliček warned that our country is almost in a state of emergency because, as he said, looting of state property worth billions of kuna, in which the political elite participates, takes place on a monthly and weekly basis. “Is Prime Minister Andrej Plenković not embarrassed that almost every other minister has been dismissed due to suspicion of corruption or because of corruption and that a large part of the directors of state-owned companies appointed by his government end up behind bars,” he asked.
Pavliček warned that Croatia has been falling for years according to the perception of the corruption index, while, as he stated, Bhutan, Rwanda and Cuba are ahead of us. The leader of the Croatian sovereignists considers the state of the judiciary to be the biggest problem, so he announced that his party will initiate changes to the Criminal Code so that those who loot state property can receive a life sentence.
HDZ Parliamentary Club President Branko Bačić, in response to Pavliček, said that a corrupt act has a name and a surname, and they do not recognize the collective responsibility of anyone, not even the Croatian sovereignists, when their members also commit a criminal act. He also pointed out that the Government fully supports the work of law enforcement agencies in the detection of all criminal offenses.
