The dates for the MW2 beta are now known.
After many rumours, leaks and a long bickering, Activision has finally released official information about the beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It will start for you in mid-September if you have a PlayStation. All others start a week later. Here you can find out how you can participate and what else you need to know about the test phase.
Last update on September 20th at 10am: The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 open beta on PS5 and PS4 ends today. An exact time when the whole thing will be over is not yet known. The first beta weekend is expected to close around 7 p.m. – but it could also happen as early as 6 p.m., since Early Access started an hour earlier.
But you don’t have to wait long to keep playing. Because the fun continues as early as September 22nd. Then not only will there be rewards if you play to level 30, but the beta is finally available on Xbox and PC and crossplay will be launched. The preload for the new platforms could also start on September 20th, but there is no precise information on this yet.

When is the Modern Warfare 2 beta happening? All times at a glance
When does the beta start in the second week? The times will be similar to the first week. So everyone can get started on Xbox and PC with an early access code from September 22 between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. From September 24th until September 26th there will be open beta for all platforms. On the PlayStation everyone can continue playing as early as September 22 thanks to the open beta. The progress from the first week is carried over.

As you may already know from the predecessors, there will be two beta phases, each of which is also divided into an Early Access weekend and an Open Beta (via Call of Duty):
Modern Warfare 2 Beta Week 1 (Only on PS4 and PS5):
Early Access: 16. September – 17. September Open Beta: 18. September – 20. September
Modern Warfare 2 Beta Week 2 (For All Platforms):
Early Access for PC and Xbox: 22. September – 23. September Open Beta for PC and Xbox: 24. September – 26. SeptemberOpen Beta for PlayStation: 22. September – 26. September
The following must be observed: Due to the current contract between Activision and Sony, the beta will only run on the PS4 and PS5 for the first week. Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC will be added in week two.
When will crossplay be unlocked? The Modern Warfare 2 beta will feature crossplay, but not until the second weekend. From September 22nd, you can fight across platforms on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
Will my progress be included after the beta? Basically, as with many other betas, you are not allowed to keep all the weapons, attachments and cosmetics you have earned. However, it has already been promised that there will be a reward for everyone who participates in the beta. But this has not yet been revealed.
Is PS Plus or Xbox Live necessary? no. At least now in the early access of the Call of Duty beta, you don’t necessarily have to be subscribed to PS Plus. It remains to be seen whether this will change in the open beta.
Participation and Preload
When does the preload start for Xbox and PC? There is still no official information from Activision when the download for Xbox and PC will work for everyone with Early Access. But most likely this will be possible on September 20th, about 48 hours before – at least that’s how it was in Early Access on the PlayStation.
Preload for Open Beta again not possible! As with week one of the beta, the Open Beta client will not be available until launch on September 24 for Xbox and PC. On the PlayStation, on the other hand, you can simply download the open beta since September 18th and are then perfectly prepared for the start on September 22nd.
How big is the download on PS4 and PS5? With the start of the preload, we finally know the download size of the beta on PlayStation consoles. So you don’t even have to make 30 GB of space on both consoles to play the test:
Do I need a code to participate? You do not need to register to participate in the open beta. All you have to do is download the beta client from the respective store as soon as it is available.
How to get early access codes: For earlier access you actually need a key. You get this mainly through one Preorder Modern Warfare 2. But there is also the possibility of receiving a key from influencers and tournament events. So check with your favorite streamers, especially when Early Access starts on September 22nd, to see if they might be distributing codes. Otherwise you can get started on Xbox and PC without a key from September 24th at the latest. A code is no longer required on the PlayStation.
You can redeem the code on Callofduty.com for your desired platform.

What can be played in the MW 2 Beta?
The focus of the beta is of course the multiplayer, which should be tested for possible bugs or balancing problems. Activision promises “a robust multiplayer experience that goes beyond the familiar 6v6, with a variety of carefully designed maps of various sizes and an equally impressive array of modes, progression systems and other aspects.”
This will be playable in the beta:
Three 6v6 maps (Valderas Museum, Farm 18, Mercado Las Almas)A 32v32 map for Ground War mode (Sarrif Bay)Three new modes to come in the rotation alongside classics like Team Deathmatch (Knockout, Prisoner Rescue and Invasion)The new 3rd person mode can be tested with a time-limited playlist.

These are the rewards in the MW 2 Beta!
For playing the beta, you will receive a set of different rewards for the main game over the two weeks. The following picture shows what these are:
How do you unlock things? Simply by playing in the beta, you will increase in operator level. After unlocking a certain tier, you can collect the reward. These include weapon blueprints, vehicle skins, operator skins, and more.
The important thing is that on the first weekend, when only everyone can play on PlayStation, you will receive the rewards up to level 15. The remaining items will only be unlocked on the second weekend. If you’re playing on Xbox and PC, you’ll only have a chance to bag the rewards from both beta sessions on the second weekend.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released on October 28, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
