Croatia is celebrating 30 years of membership in INTERPOL, to which it was admitted on November 4, 1992, and the nearly two million checks carried out last year in the bases of the International Criminal Police Organization ranks it in the TOP five member states.
On Friday, the Directorate of Police announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović boasted on the occasion of this anniversary that there were a total of 197,319,513 checks in INTERPOL’s bases last year, according to which the Republic of Croatia was in second place in Europe and fourth among all 195 member states. .
They remind that Croatia was accepted as a member of INTERPOL at the 61st session of the General Assembly of that organization in Dakar (Senegal), and upon acceptance, the National Central Office of INTERPOL (NCB Zagreb) was established in Zagreb.
Today, it is located within the Service for International Police Cooperation, the Directorate of the Criminal Police and acts as a link between the Croatian police and other INTERPOL National Central Offices and its General Secretariat in Lyon.
With the help of INTERPOL, Croatia is key in protecting the external border of the EU
“As a member state of the European Union with the longest external border, we can say that the Republic of Croatia, with the help of INTERPOL, is a key security actor in the protection of the external border of the European Union”, Minister Bozinović pointed out.
From the Directorate, I emphasize that this oldest and largest international criminal police organization is one of the key pillars of international police cooperation in the fight against transnational crime and a very important partner of the Croatian police in the international exchange of data, which has been highlighted many times during the 30 years of membership of the Republic of Croatia.
They note that it is the only international organization that has a system of international arrest warrants on a global level, whereby they are color-coded to indicate the purpose of the summons, one of the most important tools available to all member states.
Croatia has a centralized police system that uses two main information systems – the Information System of the Ministry of the Interior (IS MUP) and the National Border Management System (NISUDG).
Both systems are equipped with advanced technical solutions that enable simultaneous automated verification of a person or object in all relevant national and EU databases, as well as in INTERPOL’s databases.
Thanks to this, emphasized Minister Božinović, the trend of good results of the Croatian police continues year after year, so with almost 127 thousand checks, Croatia is second in Europe and third in the world.
